    Big Ideas

    Tim Shaw is a long-time nonprofit executive and consultant committed to helping organizations, professionals and volunteers generate, assess, implement and sustain “Big Ideas” and ultimately become sustainable, impactful and effective organizations.

    Three Decades of Work

    Tim’s professional life in the social sector has spanned nearly three decades, beginning at the age of 23 in homeless services. Tim has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF), Vice President of Community Relations for Orange County United Way, Executive Director of the Orange County Homeless Issues Task Force and Chief Development Officer for THINK Together. Tim has led grassroots efforts, as well as national initiatives, including serving as the lead planner for the Orange County Great Park in their successful effort to secure and stage the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon event. While at IPSF, Tim led the team that built and managed the largest public school foundation in California, implementing big ideas such as an annual house raffle that generated millions of dollars. While at the Orange County Homeless Issues Task Force, the regional homeless coalition in the 1990’s, Tim led a collaborative of nonprofit and local government agencies to secure the

    largest federal homeless grant in Orange County history, an effort that has resulted in over $160 million coming to the region since 1996.

    Diverse Clients

    Tim’s consulting clients, on a wide range of organizational development and planning projects, have included Goodwill Industries of Orange County, the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, UCI Applied Innovation, Orange County United Way, OneOC, the Children & Families Commission of Orange County, Jamboree Housing Corporation, the Orange County Great Park/City of Irvine, Visit Laguna Beach, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation, the UCI Alumni Association and the Stanislaus County Office of Education.

    Awards & Recognitions

    Tim is the recipient of the 1992 Orange County Community Housing Corporation’s Affordable Housing Award, the 1996 Orange County Bar Association’s Liberty Bell Award, and two Apple Awards for Innovation from the California Consortium of Education Foundations. He was honored as the 2008 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year. He has been featured in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Orange County Register and Los Angeles Times, and is a regular speaker, facilitator, and presenter at conferences and workshops. Tim serves as a proud member of the Board of Directors for Arts Orange County, the county’s official arts council.

    Personal Life

    Tim lives in Irvine, California with his wife, Denise, a Pilates Instructor and Wellness Coach, and their rescued terrier mutts, Stella and Minnie. His son, Chase, is a graduate of the School of Dramatic Arts at USC. Tim also worked for years as a professional stand up comedian, and is the 2008 winner of Orange County’s Funniest Person Contest.
